With dark horn grips, the finely-wrought steel pommel elaborately inlaid in gold and silver, the guard inlaid with gold. The robust blade of shallow curvature, wrought of superb, actively-grained Persian black wootz, and inlaid with a pair of polygonal cartouches in gold at each forte, each inscribed with the name and titles of Shah Abbas of Iran, ABBAS SHAH BANDE-YE VILAYET (r. 1588-1629.) In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel suspension bands and chape inlaid with gold and silver vinework and retaining an old collection tag and Persian dealers label dating to the latter 19th century. 18th-19th century. Minor wear to blade leather. Overall length 89.5cm/ 35 1/4". Condition II
