An exceptionally rare example of high quality, the hilt with rhino grips and silver guard and tangband elegantly engraved. The long, curved blade wrought of fine Persian black Kara Taban wootz with a broad fuller to either side of the spine and long yelman back edge, bearing finely calligraphed true-inlaid gold inscriptions: at the right forte in a circular cartouche with BISMILLAH AL RAHMAN AL RAHIM! (BLESSINGS OF ALLAH, THE MERCIFUL, THE COMPASSIONATE!) and in the fuller, likewise true inlaid in gold, the Al-Azhab verse from Quran (33:25) AND ALLAH DROVE BACK THE DISBELIEVERS IN THEIR RAGE TOTALLY EMPTY-HANDED. AND ALLAH SPARED THE BELIEVERS FROM FIGHTING! FOR ALLAH IS ALL-POWERFUL, ALMIGHTY! In its black rayskin-covered wooden scabbard with large silvered locket and chape and steel suspension bands embellished overall with gold inlay. Blade 16th-17th century, mounts 18th-19th century. Minor wear, gold inlay rubbed, edge with small chips, rayskin appears refreshed. Overall length 92.2cm / 36 1/3?. Condition II
